Current Event Quiz 4

1.  The little known perk is the gratis weekend passes.  Tom Donovan received the perk. The Austin Parks foundation says they only provide access for municipal purposes. Cofer decided to forgo the passes because he said :I don't think my presence there is worth basically an 800$ expense." Sabine Romero said that it was "ok for the mayor and council members to accept the tickets." Ann Kitchen thinks the passes are "appropriate" because its important for her office to know how the festival operates. Finally I think this is a great perk, one that personally I would definitely enjoy.

2. The state of Oklahoma started doing lethal injections because it is easier than their old way of performing executions. Texas has found their solution by trading drugs with Virginia. While Ohio and Nebraska are buying a drug no longer sold in the US from countries overseas. Midazolam is a short acting sedative. It is important because it was used in the three drug protocol, but now is unreliable.

3. The Prime Minister barred his minister from visiting a contested Old City holy site. He ordered the police to stop members or the parliament from going there. He did this because of the intensifying of the war it would no longer be safe for them to go there. They responded by saying that they would defy it by going to al-Aska on Sunday. Muhanad Halabi was shot by israli security forces. He is related to the article because he mentioned the mosque in his last Facebook post.

4. Svetlana Alexievich won the noble prize. She is most famous for her research on solders in World War II as well as the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. It is a rarity not only because she is a woman but also because most of her work is non-fiction. Her works often blend literature and journalism. She says "much work remains ahead of me and I cannot stop now."

5. Professor Emeritus Daniel S. Hamermesh made the career decision to stop teaching. The American Satesmen reporter found this put because he told him in an interview. Hamermesh is different because many employees have threatened to leave but he is the first to actually go though with it. He is also leaving because he has opportunities to work at the University of Sydney in Austrailia and at another university in London.

FREE-RESPONSE:

Summary: The Colts have a 10-0 lead against the Texans. Andre Johnson had a touchdown in the fourth quarter. He finished with six catches for 77 yards.
Opinion: My opinion on this story is who cares. I don't understand the point, the story literally just gives som information about a guy I've never heard of scoring for teams I've never heard of. The story does cover the topic well though even though it's not like its a hard topic.
I think that the additional sections are not necessary. They don't seem like the regular sections of the paper, they seem much shorter. I think they are only in the electronic section because there wasn't enough room or they weren't important enough to get into the real paper. I don't think they make the edition more appealing because I don't really follow sports. The only people they make the electronic edition more viable for is for people who want to look up sports information and scores in a newspaper on the internet instead of just searching for it in their browser.
