outline thingy

Sports stories give highlights of different games. Gisondi says that there are five main things that sports stories must have:
  • storyline: significance of the events and bits about the players involved
  • basically just an overview of what happened
  • context: key details, use the nut graph, not narrative
  • quotes: comments from players/coaches of both teams
  • key plays: important plays throughout the game
Other stuff:
    • game stories: harder to write because you have to write them sat because of quick deadlines
    • research: before writing the story research the team, players and coach
    Story:
    • includes score, best players, interesting plays etc.

    Current Events Quiz

    1. The investigation of David Joseph is finished. The timing is significant because the investigation was so short. The three options the police have are to schedule a hearing, request further investigation or stop investigating. In order for the details of the investigation to be made public, the officer must be suspended because of the shooting.

2.They want to become U.S. citizens so they can vote against Trump in the election. The trend is latino immigrants becoming citizens to vote against Trump. Obama has made it easier by making the fee easier to pay because now u can pay with credit. I think that Trump would be angry and say "they are being unfair!"

    3. The Texas Railroad Commission is struggling because they don't have a lot of money due to the drop in oil prices. If they don't get sufficient funding then the federal government might have to take over.

    4. Obama ordered the flags to be at half mast because Nancy Reagan died. Michelle Obama will be at the funeral this Friday. Nancy Reagan meant a lot to her husband so it is proper that Michelle would there. She worked at the Presidential Library for the past 15 years.

    5. The jury found out that the stalker was filming her nude. Andrew's parents made the testimony that they were horrified. The stalker was found guilty as well as the two companies that own the hotel, the stalker will pay 51% and the companies will pay the remaining 49%. I think that the award was distributed correctly.

    6. The supreme court announced that states must honor adoptions made by same sex couples if they were to move across state lines. The vote was unanimous and there were no arguments made because the judges had already made up their minds.

"It was the first day of school freshman year," said Nyla Gershoni "when in first period we had to have a lock down because there was a dangerous person in the area." This moment was Nyla Gershoni's most memorable experience at McCallum. "I remember hearing something on the announcements about a lock down but we didn't know if it was a drill or not, somehow the teachers knew it wasn't." This was no way to start off the year but little did Gershoni know that this would be the start to an eventful next four years.  Nyla Gershoni is  involved in many activities at McCallum High School. She is captain of the cheer squad as well as one of the few seniors on the swim team. Along with all of her sport activities Gershoni has an artistic side and she says "my artistic abilities have majorly improved throughout my time at McCallum." Just like any other senior, Gershoni is looking forward to the future. "McCallum has prepared me so much for the future. I know what to expect in college because of my classes and great teachers. Gershoni says "I have also learned lessons at McCallum that I will carry with me after high school and even college." Next year she plans on attending college in California, where most of her family is. "I have already been accepted to Sonoma state university and I'll be deciding where I go once I've heard back from the other schools. I'm hoping to study industrial or interior design."  Gershoni doesn't have any regrets about high school and Every year she would make it "a priority to be involved in the things that interest me. By doing the things that I enjoy I have not only had the opportunity to branch out, I have also made great friends that share my same interests. Overall Nyla Gershoni has created so many memories at McCallum that she will remember forever. "I know in the future I'll wish I could just have one more swim practice or one more high school football game. So whenever I don't feel like going to school I remember that it goes by fast and I should try to make the most of it."

    1) my most memorable McCallum experience was my first day of school freshmen year when in first period we had to have a lock down because there was a dangerous person in the area.
    2) I am most proud of my accomplishments in swimming and art. My artistic abilities have majorly improved throughout my time at McCallum. I have also enjoyed competing and achieving my goals in swim.
    3) the thing I'll remember most about McCallum is my teachers. Over the past four years I have learned a lot from all of the amazing and unique teachers at McCallum.
    4) I don't have any regrets about my high school experience. Every year I have made it a priority to be involved in the things that interest me. By doing the things that I enjoy I have not only had the opportunity to branch out, I have also made great friends that share my same interests.
    5) the first time I walked into the MAC I knew I belonged at McCallum. As an 8th grader, seeing all of the incredible student art was intimidating, but it was also inspiring. After touring the art gallery and classrooms I knew it was a program that would challenge me and I couldn't wait to start school at McCallum.
6)this year the greatest challenge has been focusing on school work when I have already been accepted to collage and I'm making plans for next year. However, I know in the future I'll wish I could just have one more swim practice or one more high school football game. So whenever I don't feel like going to school I remember that it goes by fast and try to make the most of it.
    7) I'm still waiting to hear back from a few colleges, but I know I'll be going to school in California next year. I have already been accepted to Sonoma state university and I'll be deciding where I go once I've heard back from the other schools. I'm hoping to study industrial or interior design.
    8) McCallum has prepared me so much for the future. I know what to expect in college because of my classes and great teachers. I have also learned lessons at McCallum that I will carry with me after high school and even college.
    9) I've changed a lot since freshman year. Most of all I have learned not to take myself too seriously. I realized that I am going to mess up sometimes, but that's ok because nobody's perfect.
10)if I were to do anything differently i would probably procrastinate a lot less and just do what I need to do as soon as possible.

    Reconsidering Rolling Stone's Reporting

The writers were supposed to raise awareness and make people understand the importance of college rape. But the reporter included facts that might make people think many women lie about being raped. Next time the reporters should only include information that helps get their message across while staying truthful to the topic. Also the story are it look like the university didn't car at all but that is not true.

Read and React to Rolling Stone article

Yes I enjoyed the article even though it is very descriptive. I think it does do a good job raising the difficult issues surrounding sexual assault on college campuses because a chair so many stories and it makes it seem like it's not just happening one or two times. I think the story is well reported and well written because it looks like the reporter interviewed thoroughly and with more than one person. I liked how do you reporter included rhymes from the fraternity it made the story so much more real because the rhymes were disgusting.
